The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in employing video review systems.
Video review systems are set to arrive at The Championships this year.
Athletes will gain the right to contest specific calls made by the official, mirroring the practice already in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
This technology will be accessible on Centre Court and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles contests.
This move follows just a year after the AELTC introduced ELC, which terminated the longstanding tradition of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Players cannot to challenge the accuracy of the electronic line calling, but they can ask for the official to review specific decisions, including:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball made contact with an rival's racket or body on the way past.
- Possible interference end of a point.
Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of challenges a competitor can request.
A Recent Example
An illustrative case occurred in Indian Wells last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against Jack Draper.
Draper conceded it was a difficult call for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules quite well."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and determined Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews aren't new for major tournaments. The system was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open this year.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have video reviews in place at every one of its events.
Further Updates
Another change at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to support the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.
This solves instances where spectators have occasionally been uncertain if a shot was out or in.
In other news, with exactly 100 days remaining until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
